The dome of the shrine shows one of the most beautiful examples of tile and tile mosaic works of Isfahan. The dome is decorated with beautiful arabesque designs of mosaic and the dome’s base is ornamented with Kufic calligraphy. The sanctuary hall has been used as Hosseinieh during Moharram.
Hosseiniehs are similar to mosques, but without minarets and domes. A Hosseinieh is usually a square shaped courtyard, surrounded by one or two floors arcades. Hosseiniehs are active during month of Moharram and special religious days. As mentioned before, Imam Hossein the third Shiite Imam is highly dear and respected. All Iranians love him and his struggles for Islam. Hosseinie means a special place dedicated to Imam Hossein.
